CLEAN SLATE TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT

Vision

One day there will be a level playing field for anyone willing and able to do a day's work. People who are currently excluded from the labour market will be able to put their past behind them and advance their lives.

What We Do

Clean Slate Training & Employment is a social enterprise creating and supporting paid work for people from groups that face barriers to employment. We work with homeless people, refugees, long-term unemployed people, those with mental health problems, disabilities or other histories that may cause employers to think twice. The business was piloted in the West of England but plans to expand to Wales and London and beyond through franchising. Clean Slate creates and supports opportunities to work in a number of ways:

Clean Slate Distribution - our first in-house enterprise
Clean Slate Employment - flexible work opportunities
Clean Slate Training - inspiring change
Research & Consultancy - helping to level the playing field
Business Development Support - rolling up our sleeves

About Us & News

Clean Slate Training & Employment was founded by Jeff Mitchell, a former managing director of The Big Issue magazine, and launched in May 2007. We believe many socially excluded people can work if provided with the right opportunities and support. The social enterprise has grown organically, relying mainly on trade income from services, and recently won support from the Tudor Trust to grow the business.

Clean Slate has fully engaged with the Government's worklessness agenda. At a personal level, so-called workless people (unemployed people who are also socially excluded) are proving they are willing and able to work. At a strategic level, Clean Slate is engaging with authorities, for example in Bath & North East Somerset (see News and the Aspiring to More download) and the current Employers Survey (see left). All activities, practical, strategic or campaigning, address our founding mission to create a level playing field in the labour market.
